Ok, so I went to the NARBC (North American Reptile Breeders Conference) Show today and scored two cool new tarantulas from my friends at Krazy8sInvertebrates. Sweet!
This one is an Indian Ornamental (Poecilotheria regalis)...same family as the scary blue one I had up here earlier....just not so pretty and not so expensive but pretty cool anyway!
This one is a Thai Zebra (Haplopelma albostriatum)
Bigger pics are availabe in my photo album so enjoy!
What Fun! |

Ok, so I was bored and I have a copy of Photoshop and well, this just sort of happened...
If you are a conservative or a republican or I have otherwise offended you, well shucks....keep in mind, however, that the free flow of ideas is vital to the health of a democracy. I am a patriot, dammit! I will admit, however, that this is a little unfair to Dopey, but as he is not a real person, I am not too terribly worried about it.... |

The Poecilotheria genus of tarantulas are reasonably easy to care for. They are arborial (tree dwellers) so they need a fairly tall enclosure with large pieces of cork bark to hide behind. They come from India so they like it warm and humid. More humid than you would keep your South American tarantulas. (Grammastolas, Brachypelmas, Aphonapelmas, etc)
They are quite aggressive, ligthing fast, and pack a pretty painful bite. They are not recommended for novice keepers. You need to be extra careful when opening the enclosure as they are expert hiders and tend to make a fast break for freedom. (Usually up your arm and onto your back...yikes!) Don't get one and expect to be able to handle it. I know some people who handle their pokies and it is only a matter of time before they get a healthy chomp. If you want a really nice, attractive easy to deal with arboreal tarantula to learn with, get either an Avicularia avicularia or an Avicularia Versicolor. They are quick, but docile. They don't bite or flick hairs. The worst that the do is poop at you.

Is the care of a species very complicated as this one?, a friend tape-worm a "goliat" or spider monkey, but die for not possessing the suitable conditions

I don't know how to quote. I think I have a few good years on me still I know we're not the only ones. I just have to go through 15-20 profiles to get someone who't not under 25.
I know...I know, but what can we do? WAIT A MOMENT! Listen to this...it just might work: We wait a few years and some of these young whippersnappers will be as old as we are! Yeah! I like it. Let's do that. |

No, I really did mean for it to be a poorly declined translation of "Big Booty." It's a joke I started when I took Latin in High School.
LMAO. I wish I had taken Latin in highschool. Here I am damn near middle aged trying to learn it now. Why? No reason really... |
